About

This website invites users of OpenCards to share their flashcard sets. It follows a simple wiki-style: Just post links to flashcard files you would like to share. :-)

You can easily find flashcards about all the things you ever to know, but could never keep in mind. Just look out for tags that might interest you. Here are some starting points:

Artists, music,

and more
physics, math,
medicine

However, you can also explore this flashcards repository by using the tag-cloud on the right.

Rules

In order to make this flashcard repository as useful as possible, please try to respect the following few rules when adding your own flashcard files to this repository

  • All linked files should preferably be Impress presentations (*.odp). We accept links to PowerPoint (*.ppt), because they can be imported seamlessly into OpenOffice Impress, but OpenCards is OpenSource and we prefer standardized open formats like OpenDocument.
  • No macros: Because macros are always a security risk, and there is no reason to use macros in flashcard files, please don’t use them.
  • Respect copyrights: Although we (the Opencards-project) prefer free licenses such as the GNU Free Documentation License 1.2, flashcard sets linked within this wiki are *not* required to be released under such a licence. Anyway, please make sure that your contributions to this repository respect existing copyrights. This includes especially that you don’t use copyrighted images for your flashcards. If you’re not the author/copyright-owner of a presentation which seems suitable for flashcard learning, you’re welcome to link the original source directly into this repository (which should not violate the copyright in most cases).
  • No relative links: When creating slides, included images might point to files on your local drive. These images won’t be accessible on other users’ computers. Therefore, to make sure that your cardset does not contain any local dependencies, please run “Edit->Links->Break Links” before publishing your files on this wiki.

If you consider these rules to be too restrictive or confusing, please discuss your issues and suggestions with us in our discussion forums. Flashcard files which do not respect these rules should be reported to the authors or to the OpenCards team. When posting own card files, please prefer to use existing tags to ease the search of other users

Miscellaneous

  • Because of the limited webspace available to the OpenCards-project it is not yet possible to upload cardsets directly. Please place your cardsets on an external webspace location and link them into this wiki. If you don’t have access to any webspace, please contact the OpenCards team or use a file hosting service like mediafire, dropbox or drop.io.
  • Although we favor open solutions for software development, we accept any kind of copyright. If you’re a copyright owner and you think that some parts of the content of this wiki are violating your copyrights, please contact us in order to find a solution as soon as possible.
